I've been meaning to post some of these since February, but never got there. Here are some shots of the cage redone over the winter.

that is a serious cage. I am SURE it will make the care not only safer, but much stiffer!!!!

I found out how little space there is in a C4 when i eliminated some of it...

Being 6'4" with a helmet and awkward, non-adjustable seating position makes things tricky.

Nicely done.

How you don't have any "close encounters" to test it out.

Bet it took all of that "C4 Flex" out for you!

Nice. How much more is it gonna weigh? Do they make you run a window net?

I didn't notice much difference at Mid-Ohio, but it was the first time out and things were a bit awkward with the new seating position. I made some adjustments, then it rained.

However I went to Grattan Monday and busted out lap times as good as I've ever done there in traffic with no gas (complete loss of power up the three hills) and 4 year old Hoosiers. I never checked pressures until after the last run and was running 30 hot...cripes I'm surprised I could keep it on the track. That was an encouraging performance.

Grattan has a lot of hills, banking, off camber, and blind corners. I think the stiffness made a huge difference. The car's stiffness.

It didn't add much. The total weight change over the winter was about -30 lbs. I added ~100 or less lbs with steel but removed lots of weight by taking out the window glass and motors, more wiring, etc.

I'm actually under weight in class again...a good problem to have.

I have to run a window net and an inside net unless I have a seat with halo. I have one but couldn't get one to fit.

Which Hoosiers Jon?
The Z06 I instructed in last weekend had them on, track temp was really low, like 60. We started out at 30 and came in at 35 1/2. Are you running higher or lower?
I'm not used to working with these higher pressures.

The ones I was using Monday were R2S04's, the "04" is the manufacture year. Nowadays they sell the R6 (and A6 for Auto-X). This is a much better tire. The compound is similar but the construction is different. The older tires were terrible for camber challenged cars as the edges would wear out in less than a day.

Hoosiers like 40 psi hot. Obviuosly things change up or down based on car weight and set up, but it's a good rule of thumb for a 'vette. The only tires I know of that like low pressures are the Kumhos. I run them in the 24 - 30 hot range.

Thanks, I think the Hoosiers were R6's. If the guy wants my help again, we'll try bumping them up a bit.

The lower pressure chit I was talking about was on different cars, under 15 psi cold.

A full cage makes all the difference in the world. I can lift my car up in the back and get three wheels off the ground. Makes the squeeks and rattles go away as well!

The Hoosier R6's run at much lower pressures than the R3SO4/5's. The A6/R6 have only 3 things in common with the earlier Hoosiers; they are black, they are round and they say "Hoosier" on them, but otherwise they are a totally different tire. It is very nice to have the tire pressure (TPMS)sensors so that I can see at what pressures they work best. Last Tuesday at NHMS, I started at around 25 psi cold and they were working really well up to 32 or so then they start to go away. At least on my car, 30-32 psi seems to be optimum.

Interesting. You're the first I've heard running them that low. I'll try playing around this weekend, I have a brand new set for the race. Do they go away any quicker?

No, if you keep the pressures correct, they last along time.
