It's very easy in CA, just be sure that the cam is SMOG legal and has an EO number!

The RR's won't effect emissions. But the cam will.

Crane or Comp Cam rockers... Random Tech or Carsound cats.

nice forum - !!!!

you have stated = Add a cam, roller rockers (1.6:1) and life should be good.

1 what street cam would you suggest?
2 - any special brand on the rockers?
3 - replace Cats to hi-Flows - again - any brand?

Now if i do the above will it have any effect on passing CA smog? - i just finished a long ordeal getting a VW Bus to pass - i don't want to go thru that again -

thanks - tommy

I didn't know Doug Thorley made C4 headers...I checked before I went with Hooker 2151's. Are these Tri-Y by any chance? ...or 4-into-1?

Well they don't anymore. No, they are not tri-Y design.

I know the name, don't know their quality.

They are of very high quality. 3/8" flanges, very heavy gauge pipes, etc. The only thing that is not to my preference is that they are nickle-chrome plated. I would much prefer that they were coated or even better, stainless steel.

I will suggest to you get your mechanic a copy of the helm service manual for your year. www.helminc.com or check ebay.

Gee... I would get a copy of the factory service manual, and follow their debugging instructions. www.helminc.com

you can also find copies on eBay.

I agree. Exhaust on these engines is the #1 restriction.

Long Tube Headers
High-Flow cats
x-pipe
Cat back exhaust of your choice. I like Corsa, simply because it is less boomy.

That setup would be worth upwards of 50hp. Yes, the stock exhaust is THAT restrictive.

I personally hate the TPI setup. It won't breath past 5000 RPM worth crap. I would ditch it and go with a SuperRam or MiniRam setup.

Add a cam, roller rockers (1.6:1) and life should be good. With all those mods, I see 300RWHP in your future. If you want more, then you have to mess with heads and dig deeper into the motor.

Definetly exhaust mods. The L98 has probably the most restrictive exhaust system of any C4 model. A nice free flowing exhaust system will really wake it up. The intake system is also pretty restrictive. A K&N air filter and an open air box lid will let it breathe better. There are lots of little stuff that can add up to adding some ponys. Besides what has already been mentioned. Remove the "frisbee" at the water pump pulley. That's about 10 lbs less that the motor has to spin. If it's an automatic, a high stall converter can help. Or if it has the 2:59 rear gears, a gear change up to 3:07, 3:54 or even 3:73 will really help it shoot outta the hole. (I wouldn't recommend the 3:73 for an automatic if it sees quite a few highway miles)

If you're going to open up the engine, definetly get the intake system better.
You can port the existing intake and heads and with a cam swap probably get near 300 rwhp. But, you'd have to go with aftermarket equipment to get beyond that.

I have an LT1...

...but I would start on the exhaust (Long tube headers, true duals, X-pipe, etc.), then look at a heads/cam package.

There ARE also a bunch of little mods that he can do to pick up a few HP here and there (ie. Underdrive pullies, electric water pump, etc.), but we're talking fairly small gains with each.

Hopefully, some of the L98 guys will speak up...

They're not made anymore and I don't know how long it's been since they were made, but I recently acquired a set. They have never been used and are of extremely heavy construction. A friend of mine has some EM headers. He said they weigh 10 lbs. a piece. By comparison, these weigh 18 lbs. per. They appear to have longer primaries than any other header I've seen for the C4 with the possible exception of LPEs, which might be close. They also seem to be pretty close to equal length which is also something that most C4 headers I've seen don't offer. Even though I've already got nice headers on my LT1, I'm tempted to give these a try. They have the L98 a.i.r. hookups but I can plug them, I don't use them anyway. I'm just curious if anyone's ever heard of these, used them or knows anymore about them. I thought I knew of every full length header ever made for these cars but I guess I didn't. BTW, they have 1 5/8" primaries which I also like.

Just filled off fluid with dealer ( it was low) car has 29000 miles and this just started last time out the other day. Was hoping fluid would do it but no luck, any idea's can it be the relay? Anyone have a similiar problem? Help please if you can thanks.

I'm here, you have to configure all your settings again. I think Bruthish is still working on getting everything from the old site over here to this one.

Hello everybody,

As you can see there are no post on the site. I am still trying to figure out a way to get the old posts over here.

This new forum software has some great advantages for the future. Everything will be easier to update plus it looks much better than the old one (in my opinion).

I tried my best to get everyones username and password over here. Some of the usernames were not usable so I either left them out or changed them so they would work. If yours is not working please see "Member's List" to the left and try to find your name. I will also be giving everyone's post count back so they won't have to start from scratch.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

I am a new corvette owner and not very mechanically inclined so please forgive any obvious ignorance on my part. 3 years ago I bought a low mileage coupe (37000 miles) in original condition, and after a couple of summers or 2000 miles driving, the overdrive started kicking on automatically when I was in 3rd gear driving about 40 mph. The push button on the gear shift worked fine, and would start or stop the OD when I pushed it. Now, a few hundred miles later, I cannot turn the OD on or off when I push the button, as well. I had a qualified general mechanic take a look at it, and he took the gear shift apart, and concluded that the button, rod, and switch below were working fine. He thought it might be a relay, or sensor of some kind, sending a signal to the computer as the OD light would go on in the dash, but wasn't sure where to go from there, short of tearing everything apart. So in order to not have the OD kicking in and out all the time, he disconnected a wire underneath the car (green connector I think he said), and now I drive like a regular 4 speed with no overdrive at all. This is fine until I want to cruise at highway speeds where I miss the OD. However, I notice that the OD light on the dash still comes on intermittently as it did before when the OD would activate of its own accord.

I am wondering if anyone can tell from these symptoms what the likely problem is, and where I can suggest to the mechanic he try searching next. He has not worked on many corvettes and has never encountered this problem before, although he is a very competent and knowledgeable man.

Thanks for any suggestions or help with this.
