Used to feel like an oven standing in the plasma tv section. I find it amusing people could be concerned about saving energy whilst sitting on their ass veging in front of the TV all day.

I bought my dad a refurb Samsung 40" lcd and it shit the bed after about 4 years. My mother happened to buy the same exact TV and it's going on 5 years. She probably never watches TV though.

At the time they seemed to have the best picture quality and features in their $1K price range.

I got her a satellite radio for xmas. She lives in the boonies and doesn't want to pay for cable, and internet is available otherwise only over modem, and basically has only enough connection speed to drive you insane thinking it might actually load the page.

So now she can listen to her nascar races on the satellite radio. Sadly it was the cheapest option to accomplish that, for $200 in equipment and $15/mo subscription.
Sigh.

The sound quality is amazingly disappointing on satellite too. It's about equivalent to AM, sounds like it's underwater on most stations on their own desktop radio, and sounds even worse when connected to the car stereo aux input.

I'll be surprised if they're in business 5 years from now with all the streaming options.
