I remember my dad telling me about what he though about that day, back in 41. He was 16 (almost 17) and was ready to join right then and there. He had to wait another year but then joined the Army Air Corps. Flew his missions, in a B26 Marauder, over Europe and northern Africa, shot down over Italy, he and another crewman were the only ones to survive. Took him 3 days to work his way back to friendly lines. Wouldn't get into another airplane the rest of his life. I think I can't blame him. |
