Btw, the pressure at that depth is about 2,000 psi.

That's about the same amount of pressure as having a dumptruck park on your foot. The hydraulic brake lines on your car operate at closer to 1,000 psi.

I wonder why the containment dome had to have a pipe connection to bleed off the oil pressure. Would simply blocking the oil flow cause more to leak out elsewhere? Because that's what the current attempt seems to be trying.

It seems like they're trying to clog a fat 8"(?) pipe by injecting mud into the smaller lines feeding into it, all the while the crude is blasting out of there with some good velocity and probably carrying all or most of the mud out with it.
