Steering Rack

Subject: Steering Rack
by Jimson on 2010/9/5 15:21:29

I had my 87 at the track the other day. Only got about 10 laps before huge power steering fluid leak ended my day. I think the input shaft seal let go, must be a common problem on these, time to swap in a rebuild rack.

The car has base suspension. I want to swap in the quick rack. Local parts store shows standard or Z52 as options. I thought the quick rack would be listed as Z51. They have no reference to Z51 in the computer. I ordered the Z52 rack, if its not 2 turns lock to lock I probably will not take it when it comes in.

What is the difference between the Z51 and Z52 codes? Any suggestions on where to get the quick rack if the above doesn’t work out? Will I need to change any other parts to make the swap?
